Maa Shailputri rides a bull while holding a trident and a lotus in her two hands. She is the embodiment of the strength of Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva. Daksha once planned a big Yagna. He did not invite Shiva. However, Sati persevered and arrived there. Daksha began abusing Lord Shiva as he saw her. The husband’s insult was intolerable to Sati. She consequently burned herself in the Yagna fire.
She was reborn as the daughter of King Himavat, the mighty Himalayan Lord. She went by the name Shailputri because she was the Himalayan King’s daughter. After performing difficult penance, she was able to win the favor of Lord Shiva and married him.
